Wax Removal

What causes wax build up?

Ear wax is perfectly normal. It is produced by the ear to help clean and protect itself from dirt and debris. Tiny glands in the skin in the ear canals secrete the wax to trap dust particles from entering further into your ear.

Excessive wax build up can occur just due to the shape of the ear canals, ear hair or due to wearing hearing aids. Unhealthy wax which irritates can be due to a chronic condition.

What can your Audiologist do?

We can examine and note the health of your ear canals. Simple wax can be removed suctioned and any chronic conditions will be referred to an ENT surgeon for appropriate care.

What is Micro-suction?

Using a Voroscope and a medical suction device, micro-suction is a very safe and comfortable method of removing wax. The wax is gently sucked from the ear canal. All Audiologists performing wax removal at MPA have undergone training in micro-suction technique.

Prior to your appointment, wax softener such as drops or olive oil is recommended. This will make wax removal easier and more efficient.
